For this (16 track!) album I was asked to do the arrangements/pre-production together with Jeroen van de Werken. Our briefing was to make exiting contemporary sounding tracks that would actually be playable for the average church-band. Oh boy.
We worked hard to make synth, piano, drum, bas and guitar parts that are both memorable, playable and hopefully give people some stuff to practice on.
In the beginning of Februari we were joined by Tre Sheppard who would produce the album. In the first week we tracked the basic band (with me on electric guitars) for all 16 songs, 4 songs a day. In the second week I was asked to step into the role of assistent-producer as we tracked lead-vocals and some additional instruments like cello
As we were on a tight release date I flew over to Ireland to help Tre finish the album in time. I ended up doing a couple of backing vocals as well.
One of the tracks I just love is “Zo eerlijk als God”. Took me a while to find a good groove/chords/vibe for the song, but I love how it turned out. Creative use of melodyne in the theme at the end was also fun:)
Hemel dichterbij is probably the track that rocks the most, the build-up in the second chorus is one of my favourite moments on the album. You can also hear me and Tre singing the octave on the last line “hemel dichterbij”.
I got to sing backing vocals on Eer aan de hemelse Vader. There’s also a pretty cool slide solo at the end:)
