I produced this album together with Jan Borger and Bas van Nienes. Of all projects that I’ve worked on, this was definitely one of the more creative ones. After we made all the arrangements, we recorded for 5 days in Zeeland with Jan Borger. You’ll hear me playing all kinds of instruments: Bass, moog, vocal, organ, xylofoon, piano, acoustic and electric guitars.
After the initial recording week we started working on additional parts. We wrote a lot of string and horn parts, which I then had to transfer to paper for the session musicians. I was lucky both my brother and sister were able to record the string parts on the set dates, their sound blends so well.
Hierheen was the first song I arranged for the album, it’s fun, grooves, it’s not indie, it’s not pop. Had a fun time with my sister Manja figuring out how to play the violin run just before the chorus.
The ending of Texel is one of my favourite moments of the album. When Bas and I were working on it, suddenly it all fell into place. Those are the moments you live for when working on tracks:)
One of the tracks that’s special to me is the old hymn wij blijven geloven. After I arranged this song, it was put on the shelf till just before the mixing process. When we decided that it would actually make the album, there was still quit some work to be done. Seems like a lot of people like this track on the album:)
